I guess when you really think about it, unless you're getting modifications or something, you don't really ever want to deal with a mechanic. Typically, seeing them means you have to spend a lot of money that you weren't planning to spend. I bought a used VW when I got to the island and immediately had some significant problems with it. I got a quote for repairs from VW and the quote was about $1,000.00. I brought my car to Wrench Werks after having found them on Yelp. I believe my repair ended up being about $950 at Wrench Werks, but they were friendly and professional. I've dealt with VW service on a few other VWs I've had and trust me, their service is legendary for being terrible. To Make a long story short about a week after I got my car back from being repaired something else went wrong. I brought the car in and they spent probably 2 days diagnosing the problem. They were gracious enough to not charge me for this, even though they probably could have run up a $2k service bill on me. They did the full diagnosis as a courtesy. It's a good way to win customer loyalty. I'm definitely getting rid of my piece of crap car, but if I get another VW I'll bring it to these guys for service.

I read all the negative reviews and I wanted to take my car to Tai VW in Wahiawa at first but it would have been a 30 mile tow so I chanced it with Wrench Werks. They fixed my car in about 3 hours and for less than Tai estimated. Noted a few other issues that should eventually be fixed but didn't try to do extra work and charge me for it.They also referred me to a tow company that charged me $5 less than the guy I called quoted. I think a lot of people are are pissy after having to shell out a bunch of money for a repair, especially hobby mechanics who second guess the pros and think they could have done the job themselves, or maybe I just got lucky but I thought Wrench Werks did a great job.

Apparently, they dont only work on volkswagen and audis. While I have not had the pleasure of bringing in my Nissan, at least I know they can take it - or at least they say they can. Good to know.

Aaron and his team at Wrench Werks have always given us honest estimates and advice when we inquire about "what we should do." They do good and fast work and have never told us to get "unnecessary repairs" done. There have been times where I call to inquire, tell Aaron what I've been quoted from other automotive companies and he'll honestly say, "That's a good price, you should go with it." He's even asked additional questions to make sure my issue is not covered under the warranty before pursueing the possible sale. I highly recommend Aaron and his team for your automotive repair needs (even if they do specialize in German Engineering, they do just as good a job on other makes and models).

I realized that they put a Wrench Werks license plate holder on my car a few weeks after I had my car in... a little bothered by this (although I had absolutely no attachment to my Audi Hawaii license plate holder). I was really tempted to take it off, but alas, that sounded like more of a pain than just keeping it there. And, I do think they are a great alternative to the dealer. But I thought I should warn everyone, that you may get a new license plate holder if you're not careful... Wrench Werks - please review this policy... it just feels a little pushy. Maybe just asking before you do it next time will be better.

After our VW dealer told us we need a new clutch to the tune of $2500, we decided to shop around. I spoke directly to the owner of Wrench Werks (Lance) and told him what the dealer said. He called back within 15 min with an estimate of $1216, less than half of what the dealer quoted. Suspicious, I looked for Yelp reviews and talked to Lance several times about exactly what part they'd put in, etc. We decided to entrust the VW GTI (2004) to them and I'm so happy we did! They were extremely responsive, professional, courteous and very quick. These guys work hard and know what they're doing. They also have a detailing shop on-site so you can get your car back like new. They also did a very good job. Highly recommend them! Great work Wrench Werks team, and Aaron and Lance specifically!

We have an 2001 Audi S4. In the past it was always serviced at the dealership, but I have a close highschool friend who's parents own and operate a mechanic shop. They are very trust worthy and honest ppl, but they specialize in american cars. I was referred by them to get the car checked at Volx German. My mom reported that she was really happy with the service and that they were very respectful. She really trusts this place, and my mom is actually very mechanically inclined. She use work on her Volvo back in the day, and continues to work on cars, but only to a minimal maint level. The Audi is tough for her, because it needs a professional. Although the car has been going to the dealship in the past, they were a "headache", and "overpaid". I highly recommend this shop.

Volx German have changed their name (and ownership?). The new name of the firm is "Wrench Werks". Shop rate is $95/hr which is reasonable for Honolulu. The dealer had recommended a few unnecessary things for my car which these guys confirmed were unnecessary saving me $400-500. The work they did do was fairly priced, well done, and quick. I highly recommend them if you have a VW. Seems they are working on a host of other types of cars now too...
